Application of Copper Roll Shell in Twin-Roll Casting and Rolling Process
Copper roll shells made of Be–Cu alloys offer thermal conductivity 3–4 times higher than steel roll shells, enabling faster solidification and casting-rolling speeds up to 10–12 m/min. This significantly improves aluminum strip quality and production efficiency. Key benefits include lower thermal stress (−30–50%), finer microstructure, and energy savings of about 20%. Main challenges—such as roll sticking and water sealing—can be addressed through surface pretreatment, optimized process control, and improved sealing design. Industrial results show doubled productivity and reduced cold rolling passes, confirming copper roll shells as an effective solution for high-speed, thin-gauge, and high-quality aluminum strip production.
